Meet the Explorer

"It's not just a brand. It's a way of life."

If you've spent any time following Oklahoma Backroad Explorer, you've probably already met David and his sidekick, Baker.

David isn't a full-time photographer who set out to build a brand. He's a small-town Oklahoma guy who grew up around cattle, wheat fields, dirt roads, and hard work. For years, photography was simply a way to slow down and appreciate the beauty hidden in everyday places.

What started as chasing sunsets after work slowly turned into something much bigger.

Over time, David found himself taking the long way home more often, exploring forgotten roads, photographing prairie storms, wandering through small towns, and stopping whenever the Oklahoma sky decided to put on a show. Along the way, he discovered that the photographs people connected with most weren't just beautiful images—they were the stories behind them.

Somewhere along the way, the backroads became more than a place to take photographs. They became a place to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with the things that matter most.

Today, Oklahoma Backroad Explorer is about more than photography. It's about preserving moments that might otherwise be forgotten. The old windmill standing against a storm. The ranch road glowing at sunset. The wildlife encounter that lasted only seconds. The quiet places that remind us where we came from.

In 2026, David took a leap of faith and left a nearly 12-year career in the oil and gas industry to pursue Oklahoma Backroad Explorer full time. It wasn't because photography was easy. It was because sharing these stories had become something he couldn't ignore.

Most days you'll find him somewhere on a backroad with a camera nearby and Baker riding shotgun, searching for the next story worth telling.

Because the best parts of Oklahoma aren't always found on a map.

Sometimes they're waiting around the next bend in the road.
